FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Grant Outlook Not as Bleak as Some Might Think

BENTON, MO December 28, 2008 - According to a recent article by a grant industry watch group, "The potential impact of the current economic crisis on foundations and the nonprofits they fund may not be as bleak as some might think, according to a research advisory issued by the Foundation Center. Steven Lawrence, senior director of research, draws upon existing data and research to show that foundation giving has historically remained relatively stable in prior recessionary periods and times of economic distress. He points out a number of factors that tend to moderate the impact of reduced assets on overall foundation giving and offers a less pessimistic view of the future outlook for the philanthropic sector in light of the turbulent financial conditions.

"Foundations are not immune to economic downturns," Lawrence noted. "But we expect that the impact of the current crisis on their overall giving will be far less than current market conditions might suggest."

What could effect the funding market place, is an increased volume of grant seekers. In view of other, more traditional sources of funding, being displaced due to economic conditions, more entities may turn to grants or alternate funding sources by necessity.

This would indicate steeper competition among grant seekers, and increased need for grant writer skills in researching and developing viable grant proposals.

According to Thomas Beardslee, of Beardslee Grant Writing Service, "Grant writing is a complicated and tedious process, requiring patience and perseverance on the part of the grant writer,  to match the grant seeker with the best possible funding entity, set and meet goals along the way, apply the grant seekers ideas, needs  and capabilities to an articulate grant proposal resulting in a successful grant application."

"Grant writing is not a boiler plate, fill-in-the-blank process," Beardslee said. "Each grant is one entity with a goal or project, seeking funding from another entity, to make that goal or project a reality. Each grant proposal must be hand-crafted for the best opportunity of success for both the grant seeker, and the funding entity that has specific goals of their own in how their money is spent. Uniting these two entities in a common goal or project is the job of the grant writer."
